Thank you for your faithfulness. 2007 was a great foundational year at
Chapel Hill. A lot of work has gone into updating policies, revising
structures, making necessary repairs to our church and getting our
financial house in order. The SPRC, Board of Trustees and Committee on
Finance have done an excellent job of working on these foundational
matters. Whereas 2007 has had us focus on our resources for doing
mission and ministry, 2008 will focus on us doing mission and ministry.
Chapel Hill has been a very active missional church. We have been very involved in local and foreign missions. I expect this initiative under the great leadership of Morgan Green, John Giger and Paula Kelcy to continue to grow. We are so blessed to have such dedicated workers leading us in mission. However, our mission work is more than just three people. We have a very active Faith Promise Committee helping Chapel Hill to increase ministry throughout our world. Robin Dickerson touches people’s lives each week because of your generosity to the Benevolent Ministry Fund. The Hearts and Hands folks bring many helping hands to ministries in the OKC area each month. Our Mobile Meals provides a meal and a friendly face every Thursday. Our church touches people through our work with Skyline Urban Ministries, Hope Community Lunches, the Blood Bank, Christmas Cheer, Support Our Soldiers, etc. The tutors from our church who spend one-on-one time with a child each Tuesday and Thursday through Whiz Kids bring a smile to a child building a better future. You have made a tremendous difference in our community and world. THANK YOU! Our Wednesday programming is continuing to expand. I think that you will find our Lenten Wednesday offerings to be varied and designed to meet a wider range of needs. We are blessed by the many of our church who give of themselves each week in working with our children and youth. We will continue to work to make our children’s and youth ministry among the finest. Chapel Hill is blessed with an abundance of musical talent and leadership. Our Advent and Christmas services were such a blessing. It was a joy to listen to our children and youth sing. I am so glad that many of our children and youth are getting to share their musical talents. The handbells have been beautiful. Our adult choirs make me at times think that I am listening to the choirs of heaven. We have had many moments following a musical number in which I find myself confused. Part of me wants to sit in quiet and soak up the presence of God. Another part of me wants to shout out praise to God. We are so fortunate to have so many at Chapel Hill who are willing to share their talents with others. I hope that each person at Chapel Hill will listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit in 2008. I know that God has people who need what Chapel Hill has to offer. We need to be sensitive to God’s leading so we can do what God is depending upon us to do. I hope that our worship, learning options and serving opportunities will provide each person what they need to be able to fully give themselves to God and the work God has set before us. If you have not found a Sunday School class, let us help you find one or help you start one. Sunday School does not have to take place on Sunday, nor does it have to take place on site. If you have not gone on a mission trip, let us help you find one that meets your interest. Maybe you are no longer physically able to go, but you might be willing to be a prayer partner for a trip. If you have not found a Bible Study, Study group or other learning option, let us help you find what you need. If you have not yet found a ministry that needs your talents, let us help you find your niche. Please do not think about what has always been. God may be leading you to do or to start something new. Every class and ministry at Chapel Hill had its beginning. Maybe God is calling you to start a new ministry! This Rose’s Ramblings is being written before our last two Sunday offerings were counted. We were within $38,000 of paying off Building God’s House (BGH.) We earlier paid off our Conference Ministry Assessment. We were close to having the funds we needed to meet all of our needs for this year. I expect that we will announce in early 2008 that we have paid off BGH. I also expect that we will announce a few other accomplishments as well in early 2008. This is an exciting time to be at Chapel Hill. Thank you for your faithfulness! Our desire to pay off these debts and to enhance our facilities is so we can focus on our mission which is to “Make Disciples of Jesus Christ.” Robert Rose |
