We are fast approaching our Stewardship/Consecration Sunday on February 10. With the Bishop here for the services, we would hope our congregation would turn out in force to show support for our dedication service celebrating the symbolic burning of the mortgage note for Building God’s House. We will be burning these papers in the Great Hall following the 8:30 worship service, and Bishop Hayes will be leading along with Robert. Please plan to attend on Sunday to be a part of this historic event in the life of Chapel Hill. We continue to develop projects that will enhance your enjoyment and participation in activities at Chapel Hill. We are currently working on two major projects—the lighting of our gym for our new Contemporary Worship Services—Chapel Hill Live—and the proposed audio/visual renovation of the Fellowship Hall. Once we receive the estimates for these projects, we will begin to put together a plan to fund them. We have some funds that have been contributed for both these projects, but we will need to determine what other funds are necessary to make them come to fruition. Another project that is close to being realized is the purchase of a second bus. This additional bus will allow us to accomplish so much more, particularly with the seniors and other folks living in the surrounding area assisted living centers. We currently have more who want to attend Sunday services than our single bus can manage. Again, the majority of funds for this second bus have been contributed by individuals. Both the Finance Committee and the Business Office feel that it is imperative that our congregation be fully aware of our financial condition at all times. For this reason, you may pick up a copy of our financials at any time from any of the slat wall locations around the facilities. It is important that Chapel Hill’s financial status is open for review by everyone. In addition, we will be looking at possibly publishing minutes of some of our committee meetings in our newsletter very soon. The leaders of Chapel Hill feel strongly that our congregation be kept informed of what our various committees are doing. Finally, on a personal note, for those of you who have recently purchased a new computer or are possibly becoming interested in computers, Tanya and I will be conducting a class on basic computer skills. We will cover as much as possible about the operation and understanding of just what your computer can do for you. If you feel threatened or intimidated by the “computer world”, please plan to join us for our introductory class on computers. See your bulletins and elsewhere in this newsletter for information on when/where. After such a great year in 2007, we are all very excited to see what 2008 brings to Chapel Hill. Randy Rush |
