Our new bus is now in operation and has been busy the past two weeks
with Project Transformation and other duties. Just a reminder that the
priority for use of the new bus is our Seniors’ activities and
transportation to and from the surrounding area retirement and assisted
living centers and then other groups, including youth and children.
The bus will soon have a new nickname—it was determined by the Trustees, per a request from Buzz Lanier, that our new bus be named “Fred” after the late Fred McDaniel, whose generous contribution made the bus a reality. The lettering is being provided by Jennie and Ric Penner and should be here shortly. I realize it’s still early, but I want everyone to know that this is the first time in a long time that we have received no calls or letters indicating the quarterly contribution statements are in error. I look at this as a big accomplishment for the business office and appreciate everything that has been done to get our office to this level. All of you will be happy to hear that the Trustees have awarded contracts to both Red River Roofing and TDC Construction to finally resolve our roof problems and leaks. Construction should begin no later than the second week of August and will most likely take three weeks to finish. We will be repairing/replacing, not only the area of the roof that has been plagued with leaks, but also repairing and refinishing the EIFS (the stucco looking structures on both ends of the Sanctuary); hopefully, in a month or so we can begin to think of the roof leaks as a memory rather than a reality. I want to thank the Trustees for their diligence in making the decision to proceed with these repairs. Also, beginning this week, the lighting of the Hefner Road stained glass will be installed as well as the Sunday worship projectors will be installed in the ceiling. This will greatly improve the “look” of the Sanctuary. As we move towards the fall, we will be formulating our plans for our Fall Stewardship Drive. More information will be provided as the Stewardship Committee puts together a program. Our fall programming will begin shortly, and that can only mean one thing——Fall Wednesdays. We plan to continue our tradition of fellowship with dinner followed by various study programs; check out the “Wednesday’s This Fall” insert in this newsletter for more information. Let us know if you have some favorite dishes you would like to have and we’ll do our best to accommodate your requests.
I again want to thank all of you that have helped to make this a great year and to those who have helped to make my job a little easier in keeping Chapel Hill a remarkable place to be. |
